In the year since the war in Gaza broke out, Israel's government has been cracking down on dissent among its Palestinian citizens.

Palestinian health officials say the death toll in the Gaza Strip from the 13-month-old war between Israel and Hamas has surpassed 44,000.

The Israel Defense Forces continued its intense airstrike and ground campaigns in Gaza -- particularly in the north of the strip -- and in Lebanon, with Israeli attacks on targets nationwide including in the capital Beirut.

Saturday’s attack completely demolished a multi-story building in a densely-populated neighborhood. Israel did not say who the strike’s target was.

The escalation comes after a U.S. envoy traveled to the region to pursue a deal to end months of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
